The Philippines Hub
The Philippines Hub:
The company started in 2003 in Manila with an insurance agency called “Gordon & Associates Insurance Agency Inc.” which was an agency dealing with a number of local firms. This agency is still operational today but in a much smaller way.
The agency structure proved to be too restrictive as it did not allow for the development which the company was striving to achieve. Consequently, in 2004, Gordon & Associates opened another company in Offshore Delaware which was called, GORDON & ASSOCIATES INSURANCE AGENCY INC. (Head Office) Limited LLC., which became the central broking and management company for the Group.
In 2008, Gordon & Associates signed a partnership agreement with Shipowners Mutual whereby Gordon & Associates were to be their only conduit for business from the Philippines. Although there were and still are a number of clubs accepting business from the Philippines, Gordon & Associates in conjunction with Shipowners Mutual became the major players in the Protection & Indemnity field in the Philippines, particularly in the small to medium size vessel range.
The formation of the South of England Mutual (SOEM) in 2004 provided an advantageous route for ship-owners to place their hull & machinery cover, as the SOEM Club was able to provide competitive premium levels for many of the ship-owners in the Philippines.
In 2010 an administrative office was opened in Makati, Manila, to handle all of the Group’s documentation on a worldwide basis. GORDON & ASSOCIATES PHILIPPINE OFFICE CORP., as it is called, is really the centre of operations within the Philippines, acting not only in preparing all the documentation for the Philippines and their worldwide portfolio but also as a conduit for local companies to make contact with other parts of the Group around the world.
The Philippine Hub also acts as the focal point for operating its business in South East Asia. Of the areas that have been developed, Singapore is the most active at the present time. As this part of the business continues to develop, consideration will be given to opening offices in other major centers.
